This conference comes at a time of unprecedented change for Northern Ireland’s housing sector – as one local commentator put it: “There is no precedent in this region for what is happening in terms of a genuine housing cycle, so we are on a journey through the unknown”.
Amidst all the gloom there are also potential opportunities for the sector. Some policy-makers have highlighted the opportunity of investing in social housing in terms of boosting the local economy particularly within the construction sector which has been hit hard by the slowdown.
This conference has been organised as a follow-up to last year's highly successful 'Meeting Northern Ireland's Housing Needs' conference, and will examine the challenges and opportunities facing the housing sector as a result of the current economic downturn. The conference features a high-profile panel of local and visiting experts.
Featured speakers include:
| Margaret Ritchie, MLA Minister for Social Development |
Paddy McIntyre Chief Executive Northern Ireland Housing Executive |
||
| Professor Kenneth Gibb Head of the Department of Urban Studies University of Glasgow |
Grainia Long Director, Northern Ireland Chartered Institute of Housing |
||
| Professor Alastair Adair Pro-Vice Chancellor & Professor of Property & Investment University of Ulster |
John O’Connor Chief Executive Affordable Homes Partnership |
