In the era of the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) there is greater emphasis than ever on increasing efficiency across Northern Ireland’s public sector. This brings challenges to government departments and agencies which are faced with delivering higher quality public services within a more constrained financial climate. It has become a major priority for government organisations to identify efficiency savings and develop plans that will deliver these savings across the CSR period, so that resources can be targeted to bringing improvements in key frontline services.

With the Programme for Government, Budget and Investment Strategy now agreed by the Executive, the challenge is all about delivery. As a demonstration of his determination to meet this challenge, Finance Minister Peter Robinson has overseen the creation of a Performance Efficiency Delivery Unit (PEDU) within the Department of Finance and Personnel to identify and tackle poor performance and delivery; reviewing inefficiencies and releasing resources.

This conference will examine how efficiency savings can be identified and the challenges of delivery overcome, drawing on best practice case studies from both within Northern Ireland and further afield, via an expert panel of local and visiting speakers.
