Fred Barry |
Priorities in developing Ireland's roads infrastructure
Fred Barry was appointed as Chief Executive Officer
of the National Roads Authority in 2005. Following his
graduation in Civil Engineering from UCD, he worked
around the world on major engineering projects. He
qualified from the King's Inns as a Barrister in the mid
1980s, and subsequently held the position of Managing
Director of Jacobs in the UK and Ireland. He is also a
Director of the National Development Finance Agency,
and an occasional lecturer at the Institute of Project Management.

Aidan Gough |
Freight transport: An all-island perspective
Aidan Gough is Strategy & Policy Director for
InterTradeIreland, one of the six cross-border
implementation bodies established under the 1998
Good Friday Agreement. Aidan is responsible for
developing the strategic direction of InterTradeIreland
as it seeks to deliver its legislative mandate. Aidan is a
graduate of Queen's University, Belfast with an MBA
and MSc in Economics. Prior to joining InterTradeIreland, Aidan was
Director of the Northern Ireland Economic Council.

Chris Hyde |
Providing transport solutions for the city of the future
Chris Hyde is currently Head of Transport Network Planning in the Planning department at Transport for London. He is responsible for co-ordination of strategic transport planning and TfL’s multi-modal transport modelling. Chris was formerly a member of the team that developed the London Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

Dr John J. Lynch |
Modernising Ireland's public transport system
Dr John J. Lynch is Chairman of Coras Iompair Eireann
(CIE), Ireland's main authority for the provision of public
transport. He is former Chairman and Director General
of FÁS - the training and employment authority.
Previously he was Chief Executive of Bord Gais Éireann
and the Irish Productivity Centre and prior to this he was
Director of Business Policy with the Confederation of
Irish Industry. He has been a Director of a number of private companies
including Pye (Ireland), Barlo Ltd., Cara Computers Ltd., Novum Ltd.
and Emmet Cream plc.

Conall MacAongusa |
Chairman
Conall MacAongusa is the RPS Director charged with the delivery of traffic and transport planning consultancy services. He has been involved with some of the country’s most challenging and high profile transport and infrastructure projects including the Dublin Light Rail Transit Project (now LUAS) and the M50. He is currently director for RPS involvement in
LUAS Line F (Lucan to City Centre) and for the Cork Area Strategic Plan Update (2008) which is due for publication this Autumn.

Adam Marshall |
Connecting cities: A transport priority
Adam Marshall is Head of Policy at the Centre for
Cities, an independent urban policy research unit.
Adam played a key role in the launch of the Centre and
the development of its research and policy priorities,
having previously worked for ippr. Over the past three
years, he has worked extensively on governance,
devolution and transport issues. He now leads policy
development work at the independent Centre for Cities.

Chairman
Reg McCabe is Projects Director for the IBEC-CBI
Joint Business Council, with special responsibility for
infrastructure investment and R&D/innovation. He has
also acted as Director of IBEC's Transport & Logistics
Council and its PPP Council. He has lectured and
written extensively on PPP and on transport policy
issues and has a particular interest in issues relating to
infrastructure, freight logistics, ports and shipping.

Making roads perform: Technology and network management
Barry Moore, following over thirty years of experience
in the UK's Department for Transport, is now the
Director for Strategy in Mouchel Consulting's Traffic
Operations and Technology business with special
interests in operational architectures. During his time
with the UK's DfT he has headed divisions delivering
traffic and operational technologies to motorways in the
UK and played a leading role in establishing the Traffic Officer service
on England's motorways.

Patrick McGovern |
Developing light and heavy rail: A legal perspective
Patrick McGovern is a senior partner with leading
Irish commercial law firm, Arthur Cox, in its Energy and
Resources Group and specialises also in Public
Procurement and Projects. Patrick has been centrally
involved in a range of electricity and gas projects, both
in Ireland and internationally, and has extensive public
procurement expertise, including in the energy sector.
Patrick has advised many of Ireland's leading energy players and is a
recognised expert on the Irish and EC legal and regulatory framework
within which the sector is currently developing.

Maurice Mullen is Assistant Secretary in the Department of Transport with responsibility for Corporate Services and Sustainable Transport. The Department is currently preparing a Sustainable Transport Action Plan intended for publication later this year. Previously Maurice was Director General of the Maritime Safety Directorate and the Irish Coast Guard. He also worked in the Departments of Agriculture and Marine and Natural Resources with responsibilites for the beef and fisheries sectors and the development of forestry in Ireland.

Developing transport networks: Connecting people and places in the all island economy
Conor Murphy MP MLA, is the Northern Ireland
Minister for Regional Development, taking up the
portfolio following the restoration of devolution in May
2007. His responsibilities as Minister include strategic
planning; transportation strategy; ports and public
transport; roads and water policy and providing
and maintaining roads. He is Sinn Féin MP and
MLA for Newry & Armagh, and is a former councillor on Newry &
Mourne District Council.

Steven Patterson |
Changing travel behaviour: Tackling climate change and congestion
Steven Patterson has been the Sustrans Director for
Northern Ireland, since he established the Belfast office
in 1995. With a background in civil engineering,
Steven has also worked as a freelance journalist and
media trainer. He was born and bred in Belfast and is
a commuting cyclist and keen walker. Steven is a
member of the Northern Ireland Cycling Forum and is
Chairman of the Forum's Infrastructure Directorate. Sustrans, which
stands for Sustainable Transport, is responsible for developing the
National Cycle Network, Safe Routes to Schools, Active Travel, Bike it,
Travelsmart.

Tom Wilson |
Meeting the needs of freight: the importance of an integrated transport network
Tom Wilson is Regional Manager for Ireland for the
Freight Transport Association (FTA), which represents
the transport interests of companies moving goods by
road, rail, sea and air. Before joining the FTA five years
ago, he spent 30 years in fuel oil distribution, including
the last decade as Managing Director of the BP oil
distributor for the North. This was where he first
encountered the FTA, which BP used for inspections on vehicles and
drivers' hours.
