The reform of the public sector is now top of the Government’s agenda and the sector is facing unprecedented change.
Set against the backdrop of the supplementary budget announced in April 2009, there is greater emphasis than ever on increasing efficiency across the public sector. With the current fiscal challenges, it is now essential that key measures be identified to ensure the sustainability of public finances. This presents significant challenges to government departments and agencies charged with delivering higher quality public services within a more constrained financial environment.
This conference will examine all the important issues surrounding the reform process via an expert panel, comprised both of those with responsibility for driving implementation of the major reforms, and people with relevant expertise and experience to share. The scene will be set in the opening session by Professor Frank Barry from Trinity College Dublin, who will examine real and transformative alternative ways of organising public services.
Featured speakers include:
| Seán Aylward Secretary General Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform |
Ciarán Connolly Secretary General Public Service Management & Development Department of Finance |
||
| Norman Gillanders Assistant Secretary Office of the Revenue Commissioners |
Niamh O’Donoghue Director General Department of Social & Family Affairs |
||
| Bruce Robinson Head of Northern Ireland Civil Service |
John Tierney City Manager Dublin City Council |
