agendaNi seminar - part of the government explained series
How the Northern Ireland Assembly Works seminar
The Northern Ireland Assembly has now been up-and-running
for over two years. It has a full legislative programme
considering issues such as housing, local government reform,
education and the devolution of policing and justice. The
actions of local legislators now have a direct impact on
organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors.
The Assembly’s committees have also full agendas looking
into policy issues across all departments. In addition to calling
Ministers to give evidence the Assembly’s committees have
called senior civil servants, business leaders, church leaders,
directors of NGOs and expert individuals. As the devolved
Assembly continues to make its presence felt the Assembly
will be central in influencing the future shape of Northern
Ireland, and increasing numbers of individuals and
organisations will need to interact with it.
This seminar offers those who have an interest in influencing
the Assembly an insight into how the Assembly works. It is
for both seasoned practitioners, who will benefit from the
debate on how best to influence the Assembly, and those who
are new to what goes on in Parliament Buildings.
