Date: Wednesday 29th September 2010
Venue: Culloden Hotel, Belfast
The Northern Ireland Economic Conference, now in its 15th year, has become firmly established as the annual ‘economic summit’ for Northern Ireland and is unique in providing a one day forum for leaders of organisations in both the public and private sectors to examine Northern Ireland’s economic prospects. The challenges facing the Northern Ireland economy are even greater now than at any time in the conference’s 15 year history. The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government has announced plans to address the UK’s massive budget deficit which include cuts of £6.2 billion in Government spending across the UK, of which Northern Ireland’s initial share will be £128 million. Whether implemented immediately or deferred, there is no doubt the impact of this will be significant, particularly on an economy so reliant on the public sector, and it is widely accepted this is only the beginning.
