This event is a follow-up to the successful Transforming Public Services conference which took place in September 2009, attended by nearly 200 senior managers and policy makers from across the public, private and voluntary sectors. The long-awaited Report of the Special Group on Public Service Numbers and Expenditure Programmes, dubbed “An Bord Snip Nua”, was published last year with recommendations that savings in the region of €5.3 billion must be found, entailing staff reductions of over 17,000. Since then, with the publication of the 2010 budget, Finance Minister Brian Lenihan has announced a raft of severe cost-cutting measures in order to put those recommendations into place.
A major priority this year will be the implementation of these reforms, which will see radical change right across the public sector. This conference will examine all the issues surrounding the transformation of Ireland’s public services via an expert speaker panel.
